Legalize Hemp and Cannabis in California

"And if my words did glow, with the gold of sunshine. And if my tunes were played on the harp unstrung..." Please help these words to ripple... ripple becomes a wave... wave becomes a tsunami... pretty soon love and compassion are the law of the land and we can dance in peace and unity!

Right now there are two competing signature drives to put Cannabis legalization initiatives on the ballot in California in November 2010.

One is found at www.taxcannabis2010.org

The other is found at www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org

Please look carefully at the text of both laws (the text of each is finalized) and make up your own mind which one you support.

I am supporting www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org because our law will protect Cannabis users from discrimination in

healthcare, employment, and housing. It is a full legalization measure for industrial hemp and recreational cannabis which will restore full human rights to Hemp farmers and Cannabis users all across California. Of course supplying Cannabis to children will remain illegal just as it is today. Driving vehicles under the influence will remain illegal just as it is today. Cannabis users will still be fired from their jobs if they show up to work impaired.

There are two parts to our plan. The first part is to publicly post and personally distribute our "Freedom Lover's Call to Arms" in order to recruit volunteers. This document is available here-

The second part of our plan is to ask everyone who volunteers to make a pledge for how many signatures they can collect in

the next 30 days or so. 15-30 signatures is a good number. If enough volunteers show this level of commitment we can succeed. You can probably get that number from your family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors without having to solicit in public too much. This is an "out of the closet" movement. We will have to proudly advocate human rights for responsible, honest, hard-working Cannabis smokers in order to convince legitimate people to support us. I can supply stickers equivalent to each persons pledge number. These stickers can be used to generate interest and be given to voters who sign the petition. Here is the sticker design-

We have 145 days in order to get the number of signatures that we need. Our petition is hot off the press on 9/11 and we

have started collecting the first signatures yesterday 9/12.

We are polling 56% public support for Cannabis legalization in California which menas that this is an initiative which is not doomed. Its time has finally arrived; we are at the tipping point right now. Now is the time to do this and to do it right. We may only get one chance. If a law which is not exactly what we want is implemented then we may lose our critical mass and our ability to set it right.

I believe that less adults will smoke cannabis after it is legal. This is the case in the Netherlands where it has been

available over-the-counter for 30 years yet only half as many citizens (percentage-wise) smoke as do citizens here. My economics professor has taught for years that prohibition has not succeeded in decreasing usage by increasing penalties. Instead it has destroyed lives and families without substantial benefit to society. After legalization hard-drug usage will decrease due to a "separation of the markets," a decline in the price of Cannabis relative to hard-drugs, and the restoration of honesty and common sense in drug education. Violence, thievery, and the incarceration of honest people will decrease as well. I also believe that a well regulated market will decrease the availability and appeal of cannabis to children. In fact teenage Cannabis use in California has fallen steadily since the passage of Proposition 215. Furthermore the adults who smoke Cannabis after legalization will be better able appreciate the majesty of nature in peace and unity without learning to fear and disrespect authority figures. This will be better for their spirits and better for society. Finally the human rights of legitimate medical Cannabis patients will be better protected than they are today. Legalizing Cannabis will create a safer, healthier, and more humane California for us all to live in.

FrEE FESTIVAL- Rythms On The Rio - August 22-23

I wanted to let you know about a free festival we are putting on in South Fork CO, on August 22nd and 23rd 2009.

The festival is called Rhythms On The Rio (www.rhythmsontherio.com).

It will be a free 2 day festival with on-site and local camping. It will be a pass the hat donation based benefit for the Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust, and the High Valley Community Center for kids, and is being put on by The South Fork Music Association, a non-profit volunteer 501-3C Group.

Headling acts will include the Nershi-Law Trio (formerly Honkeytonk Homeslice) and friends, Great American Taxi, and others. Appearing with Bill and Jill Nershi will be Scott Law, and Darol Anger (plus maybe some other unannounced guests). The Darol Anger Trio, and others, will also appear that
day. On August 23rd 2009, Great American Taxi, Susan Gibson, Pete Kartsounes, and others will also be appearing.

The festival will take place on the grassy banks of the Rio Grande river in the San Juan mountains of South Fork CO (just over Wolf Creek Pass from Pagossa Springs and west of Alamosa in the town of South Fork on highway 160), on August 22nd and 23rd 2009. It is easy to get to, and should be a kind, relaxed, real good time for everyone. Tickets are free, but must be downloaded off of the web site.

Just saw the initial lineup for Wakarusa '09.

Sooo pumped for Galactic and YMSB!!! Went to school in New Orleans so I had my fill of Galactic when I was there, but now I'm cravin!

Saw YMSB at Bear Creek and they absolutely killed it! Cant wait for another show from them!

Also pumped about the new location for Waka! Looks to be beautiful.

TetraGroove is an independent record company from San Francisco, with their premier release: “The Humboldt Collective”, a compilation featuring the hottest in up-and-coming talent from the Humboldt County area. The official release of Freekbass' new album "Junkyard Waltz" will be November 28, 2008 at the 20th Century Theater in Cincinnati, OH. The evening will be hosted by funk legend Bootsy Collins. Eclipse (2008 CEA nominee in Hip Hop category) will be opening the show.

On "Junkyard Waltz" Freekbass has enlisted the help of some very talented musicians including Gary "Mudbone" Cooper, Jen Durkin, Bootsy Collins, Buckethead, Bernie Worrell, and Phish's Mike Gordon.

Greetings to all...
Santa Cruz's own two hometown bands "Five Eyed Hand" and "7 Come 11" will be helping sponsor a Blanket Drive with the Santa Cruz Homeless Services Center.

"Five Eyed Hand" hits the stage at 9pm sharp! Each band plays one set. "7 Come 11" is on next and will finish the evening.

The Homeless Services Shelter website is www.scshelter.org. Their mission is dedication to the coordinated provision of services for homeless persons. The goal of the HSC is to provide both emergency and transitional services to homeless individuals and families that will enable clients to achieve self-sufficiency.

Please bring a blanket, new or used (but in good condition) to our show at Moe's Alley, Santa Cruz, this Thursday, November 13th. 9pm

FOR THIS SPECIAL SHOW... those who donate a blanket will receive a special gift pack and more!!

Interview with Col Bruce Hampton

Col. Bruce Hampton has been making music since he formed his first band in 1963. Col. Bruce has been in constant motion ever since leaving a trail of memorable live performances with his bands The Hampton Grease Band, The Late Bronze Age, and The Aquarium Rescue Unit.

Along the way he starred in the cult classic movies "Sling Blade" and "Outside Out." The Colonel is currently playing with his band The Quark Alliance and plays with the original lineup of The Aquarium Rescue Unit.

In many circles, Bernie Worrell needs no introduction. From his work as a founding member and Musical Director of Parliament-Funkadelic to his contributions to the Talking Heads, Worrell has been twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Indeed, songs such as “Burning Down the House” and “Flashlight” wouldn’t have been the same without him, and Worrell’s keyboard prowess has only grown since those classic recordings. 08/19/2008
We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.

Interview with G Love

It’s been a long, successful run for the Philadelphia native and self-described “hip-hop blues artist,” whose self-titled 1994 Okeh/Epic Records debut was certified Gold on the strength of the MTV hit, “Cold Beverage,” and a non-stop performing ethic that still has them playing more than 150 shows a year. In fact, the group just recently returned from a headline tour in Australia and Europe that was highlighted by some shows with Jack Johnson. Upon their return to the U.S., the band will be headlining their own outdoor amphitheatre tour with John Butler Trio later this summer.

Given the volume of speculation and rumors that have bubbled up recently, I have been asked to make a statement…Here goes.

For me, the last four years have been great. I’ve spent quality time with my family and have watched my daughter grow. I took great pleasure and pride in writing and recording an album. I’m living a healthy lifestyle. I travel as little as possible and I sleep in my own bed. It took a couple of years after the break up to begin talking to my old band mates, but once the conversations began to flow it wasn’t long before the friendships were rekindled. And I can honestly say that I’m closer with all of them now then I’ve ever been in our 20-year relationship.

Recently the conversations have turned toward the possibility of spending some time together. Currently many of us have plans and projects already in the works, most notably Mike, who made a great album and is about to hit the road in support of it. Given that I might not even see some of the guys for the next six months, I would say that the announcement of a reunion is premature. However, later this year we hope to spend some time together and take a look at what possible futures we might enjoy. In fact the only real decision that has been made is that when we do get together, it will only be the four of us, hopefully with no distractions. I am really looking forward to that.

I want to say just a few more things. The prospect of Phish reuniting is something I consider very seriously, and I think about it a lot. And lastly, as always, there is plenty of misinformation floating around. Try not to focus too much on secondhand sources and random gossip. If there is anything real to announce, it will come from the four of us as a group.

Rock the Earth www.rocktheearth.org needs someone to help at the Murphys, CA Mule & Ratdog show on Friday, June 27. You will receive a pass into the show, however, it is expected that this is a working pass so you will need to be willing to work during set up, pre-show, between sets, and tear down. There will be 2 other volunteers working the booth with you so you would have good guidance during the show.

You will be educating music fans about the work RtE is doing around the country in partnership with the music and environmental communities to protect natural resources, and asking people to join RtE that night. If interested, please send an email to tree@rocktheearth.org (not a Tribe message!!).

2-night Izabella run in Sacramento finalized!!

We've confirmed another 2-night run in Sacramento on August 15th and 16th. For those of you that have been around a 2-night Izabella run then you know the craziness that will go down. For those of you that don't it's the biggest little secret. Sacramento has a really good scene and community that surrounds Izabella and we are excited to provide a great weekend of music. Look for our new stage design to be debuted at this festive event!

A summer night on Vashon Island proved that the community IS smaller than we all think. After loading in we starting talking with the other act on the bill and it turned out Lucas Carlton had performed with a couple of these guys in High School. As discussion continued we realized that the bass player from the band was dating Sean Lehe's cousin. The night with Damon Castillo Band (www.myspace.com/damoncastillo) not only blew our minds, but also knocked us off our feet! These guys are hot and will be a lovely start to the weekend so make sure you come out at 9pm sharp to check this solid unit out.

Saturday is when things get loose and the party explodes. Our great friends 5 Eyed Hand (www.fiveeyedhand.com) will ignite the fire with their playful artistry and impressive musical backgrounds. This summer has introduced 5 Eyed Hand and Izabella to the festival circuit and we're extremely excited to have these guys joining us in our hometown. Saturday is not to be missed so make sure you get drinks early and make it out to catch this Santa Cruz based quartet.

We're looking forward to an incredible weekend of music and celebration of life so join us for the weekend and check out some talented folks from Sacramento to San Luis Obispo. There will be horns present on Friday and a violin in the house on Saturday so look for some cross pollination. Get your $15 two-night pass early cause the place will get packed!

I just created a site called GabyVmusic.com. This was an idea a friend of mine had to help give me a little spark with the music creating process. The idea is to have one new song posted on my site each week. The spark has really worked and I am already on week number 4, which means I have already uploaded 4 new songs.
Each song posted is totally original and unique to the going's on in my life for that week. I have vowed to follow through with the weekly creation for one full year, so that means at the end of the year I will have a total of 52 new, original songs. Anyone can go on the site (GabyVmusic.com) to listen to and download songs.
People who subscribe to the blog (that's you!! :>) and/or email list can get the song emailed to them immediately when the new song is posted each week.
I am really trying to run with this thing. I am asking for feedback from anyone and everyone on the GabyVMusic.com site. Subscribers can give their own recommendation on themes for upcoming week's songs and also post responses and critiques to songs already posted.

They can be places steeped in their own history, buried under the sense of their own pasts. Places of hey-days and what-once-was. And it's that sense of something lost, and of what perhaps should have been, and what might be, that permeates Atkins's debut, Neptune City.

Blue Turtle Seduction and TerraFin Entertainment are honored to present the 3rd Annual “LAS TORTUGAS DANCE of the DEAD”. The event is located 100 yards from the Central Western Gate of the magnificent Yosemite National Park, at the Evergreen Lodge in Groveland, Ca.

This year’s artist lineup features an amazing array of artists with an emphasis from the exploding Northern California music scene. We are absolutely tickled to announce the following confirmed acts:
TEA LEAF GREEN, HOT BUTTERED RUM, Host Band BLUE TURTLE SEDUCTION, JGB Featuring MELVIN SEALS, LEBO FROM ALO (and more surprises), GUITARMAGEDDON, with more special headliners to be announced. Our Lineup also includes some incredible “Up & Coming” bands, including POOR MAN’S WHISKEY, BLVD, THE MONOPHONICS, DELTA NOVE, THE TRESPASSERS, IZABELLA, UNDERGROUND ORCHESTRA, ON THE ONE, VICTOR BARNES, TISTRYA AND FRIENDS, BIG LIGHT, DAVE STEIN BUBHUB, & WISEBIRD, with more to come.

The festivities begin on Thursday, October 30th and run through Sunday, November 2nd, 2008.

HOT BUTTERED RUM & BLUE TURTLE SEDUCTION will make the first splash at the THURSDAY NIGHT KICK-OFF PARTY on October 30th. Tickets and Cabins go On Sale May 15th at 8:00 a.m. To reserve a Cabin or On Site Camping, please call the Evergreen Lodge May 15th, again at 8:00 a.m. #209-379-2606. There is a 3 day minimum on Cabins and Custom Camping, where gear is provided by the Lodge. There is a 2 day minimum on reserved ‘do it yourself’ Camping. There is also a 25% discount on 4th and 5th night cabin stays.

The Cabins are sure to sell out rapidly, so please call on May 15th. 4 Day Early Bird Tickets will be available for $100. The ticket price will go to $125 as of July 1st, 2008. Tickets for TORTUGAS III will be made available via http://evergreenhalloween.inticketing.com.

Building upon the Magic of the past 2 years, LAS TORTUGAS III will feature 3 Stages, TERRAPIN BIG TOP, TUOLUMNE HALL and the TAVERN. There will be nightly themes, including the Annual Halloween Costume Contest, the Cabin Decoration Contest, the Evergreen Fire Pit Parade, Dusk Performances at the Sunset Vista and plenty of fantastic activities for Young and All throughout the weekend. Once again Evergreen will be providing high quality festival food in the food court as well as tasty buffets run through their great restaurant.

1) Food: food court with various options, breakfast/lunch buffet and dinner buffet, general store with grab and go food options, beer/wine, snacks, ice cream fountain, and more!

2) General store: food, beer, ice cream, snacks, gifts, sundries, outdoor related items, etc…

3) 90 year old Tavern with full bar, ten beers on tap, excellent wine list, big screen for world series, killer music

4) Rec. Center with free internet and long distance service, cozy fireplace and couches, games, guide service office, bike rentals

5) Bath House: For on-site campers only

6) No RV's on site. RV camping is available in the national forest

7) Car camping in the Evergreen parking lot is not allowed

8) No Dogs

9) Weather at this time of year is typically nice with highs in the 60's and lows in the high 30's though Fall weather in the Sierra can be unpredictable and you should be prepared for whatever mother nature might throw at us!

In addition to reserved on-site camping available by calling the front desk of Evergreen Lodge, there are several excellent lodging options throughout the Yosemite and Groveland areas, from hotels, bed/breakfasts, and camping. Interview with Vince Herman from Leftover Salmon and Great American Taxi

To recall, it was here in Colorado, in the early 90s, that Vince Herman combined the talents of banjoist Mark Vann, mandolinist/guitarist Drew Emmit, bassist Tye North and drummer Michael Wooten to form the polyethnic slamgrass band now known as Leftover Salmon. These road-dogs scoured the country juggling over 150 shows a year, for years, and satisfying the peoples need for the perfect festivarian act. Vince is currently touring with his band Great American Taxi.

SONIC BLOOM is a 3-day camping festival that will bring music, dance, art and human performance together in an atmosphere that inspires open channels of creativity for everyone involved, especially the audience. Together with bands like ZILLA and LOTUS, innovative DJs like Bassnectar, Bluetech and The Glitch Mob; live painters, fire performers, projection artists, dancers, costumers and especially YOU will help us all to co-create our own world of communal improvised creative process.

This year's site is incredible. It features amazing landscapes, access to vast wilderness from the top of the chair-lift, styling resort-style lodging and an intimate late-night venue. You can also expect visionary art exhibits, workshops, sculpture, fire performances, food vending (including vegetarian and vegan options), a variety of restaurants, craft vending, amazing outdoor recreation and a damn good dance party. We encourage people to bring costumes and the giving of small gifts to fellow festivarians. Come up to the high country for what will be an experience sure to move your body and your mind.

ALPINE SLIDE
Winter Park's ALPINE SLIDE is the longest in Colorado. With over 3,000 feet long, the heart-pounding track winds its way down the mountain. An epic ride to have on the festival site!

CHAIRLIFT RIDES
The Winter Park Resort ski lift will be open during the festival. Let The Zephyr Express chairlift whisk you from the Village at Winter Park up to an elevation of 10,700 feet. This ride offers spectacular views of the Continental Divide and the Fraser Valley. And at the top, The Lodge at Sunspot offers fantastic mountaintop dining including lunch and snacks.

OUTDOOR CLIMBING WALL
Come test your climbing skills on the outdoor climbing wall. Located between the Leaps and Bounds Bungee and the Alpine Slide, this activity delivers challenge, excitement, and adventure to your Winter Park Resort experience.

HUMAN MAZE
Located at the base of the resort, this maze twists and turns in every direction. Finding four check points and racing against the clock adds an extra dimension of challenge to the frequently re-configured labyrinth.

LEAPS & BOUNDS BUNGEE
The Leaps & Bounds Bungee features four individual trampolines linked by one center tower. Flips and twists are easy to perform on these trampolines with the help of the bungee cord

MINI GOLF
Mountainside Mini Golf at the base of Winter Park has eighteen holes, each depicting historic aspects of the Fraser Valley.

MOUNTAIN BIKING
Winter Park offers some of the most spectacular riding in the western U.S. Whether you're a novice or an expert downhiller, there are plenty of trails for you to experience. With over 600 miles of trails throughout the Winter Park and Fraser areas, it's no wonder Winter Park has been dubbed Mountain Bike Capital USA.

HUMAN GYROSCOPE
Have you ever floated in space? The GyroXtreme is similar to the equipment designed by NASA for astronaut training, and used by many air forces to train their fighter pilots. More importantly, it offers plenty of fun for kids of all ages, and should not be missed.
