www.phish.com

Given the volume of speculation and rumors that have bubbled up recently, I have been asked to make a statement…Here goes.

For me, the last four years have been great. I’ve spent quality time with my family and have watched my daughter grow. I took great pleasure and pride in writing and recording an album. I’m living a healthy lifestyle. I travel as little as possible and I sleep in my own bed. It took a couple of years after the break up to begin talking to my old band mates, but once the conversations began to flow it wasn’t long before the friendships were rekindled. And I can honestly say that I’m closer with all of them now then I’ve ever been in our 20-year relationship.

Recently the conversations have turned toward the possibility of spending some time together. Currently many of us have plans and projects already in the works, most notably Mike, who made a great album and is about to hit the road in support of it. Given that I might not even see some of the guys for the next six months, I would say that the announcement of a reunion is premature. However, later this year we hope to spend some time together and take a look at what possible futures we might enjoy. In fact the only real decision that has been made is that when we do get together, it will only be the four of us, hopefully with no distractions. I am really looking forward to that.

I want to say just a few more things. The prospect of Phish reuniting is something I consider very seriously, and I think about it a lot. And lastly, as always, there is plenty of misinformation floating around. Try not to focus too much on secondhand sources and random gossip. If there is anything real to announce, it will come from the four of us as a group.

Until then,
Page

Govt Mule/Ratdog show in Murphys, CA - volunteer opportunity!

Rock the Earth www.rocktheearth.org needs someone to help at the Murphys, CA Mule & Ratdog show on Friday, June 27. You will receive a pass into the show, however, it is expected that this is a working pass so you will need to be willing to work during set up, pre-show, between sets, and tear down. There will be 2 other volunteers working the booth with you so you would have good guidance during the show.

You will be educating music fans about the work RtE is doing around the country in partnership with the music and environmental communities to protect natural resources, and asking people to join RtE that night. If interested, please send an email to tree@rocktheearth.org (not a Tribe message!!).

2-night Izabella run in Sacramento finalized!!

We've confirmed another 2-night run in Sacramento on August 15th and 16th. For those of you that have been around a 2-night Izabella run then you know the craziness that will go down. For those of you that don't it's the biggest little secret. Sacramento has a really good scene and community that surrounds Izabella and we are excited to provide a great weekend of music. Look for our new stage design to be debuted at this festive event!

A summer night on Vashon Island proved that the community IS smaller than we all think. After loading in we starting talking with the other act on the bill and it turned out Lucas Carlton had performed with a couple of these guys in High School. As discussion continued we realized that the bass player from the band was dating Sean Lehe's cousin. The night with Damon Castillo Band (www.myspace.com/damoncastillo) not only blew our minds, but also knocked us off our feet! These guys are hot and will be a lovely start to the weekend so make sure you come out at 9pm sharp to check this solid unit out.

Saturday is when things get loose and the party explodes. Our great friends 5 Eyed Hand (www.fiveeyedhand.com) will ignite the fire with their playful artistry and impressive musical backgrounds. This summer has introduced 5 Eyed Hand and Izabella to the festival circuit and we're extremely excited to have these guys joining us in our hometown. Saturday is not to be missed so make sure you get drinks early and make it out to catch this Santa Cruz based quartet.

We're looking forward to an incredible weekend of music and celebration of life so join us for the weekend and check out some talented folks from Sacramento to San Luis Obispo. There will be horns present on Friday and a violin in the house on Saturday so look for some cross pollination. Get your $15 two-night pass early cause the place will get packed!

See you soon

Free Music Downloads at GabyVmusic.com

Hey Friends,

I just created a site called GabyVmusic.com. This was an idea a friend of mine had to help give me a little spark with the music creating process. The idea is to have one new song posted on my site each week. The spark has really worked and I am already on week number 4, which means I have already uploaded 4 new songs.
Each song posted is totally original and unique to the going's on in my life for that week. I have vowed to follow through with the weekly creation for one full year, so that means at the end of the year I will have a total of 52 new, original songs. Anyone can go on the site (GabyVmusic.com) to listen to and download songs.
People who subscribe to the blog (that's you!! :>) and/or email list can get the song emailed to them immediately when the new song is posted each week.
I am really trying to run with this thing. I am asking for feedback from anyone and everyone on the GabyVMusic.com site. Subscribers can give their own recommendation on themes for upcoming week's songs and also post responses and critiques to songs already posted.
So, if you get a minute, check out GabyVmusic.com and listen to the Songs of the Week!
Much love to you all.

Interview with David Bromberg

David Bromberg’s live show remains as unique as ever. Concerts by David and his band are extraordinary events, and performances follow no set pattern of selection. Give and take between performer is complete, spontaneous, and totally sincere. As the NY Times noted “He has such control of his audience that he can, at one moment, hold it in his hand with a tender, touching yet funny anecdotal song, and then set it romping and stomping with a raucous bit of raunch. He is electrifying.”

Interview with Nicole Atkins

The shores of New Jersey are littered, quite literally, with small towns whose better days are far in the past. They're towns that have been written about, and sung over; towns that have been mythologized and idealized; and they are the towns that 28-year-old musician Nicole Atkins --a native of Neptune City, located a stones throw from fabled Asbury Park--was born and raised in.

They can be places steeped in their own history, buried under the sense of their own pasts. Places of hey-days and what-once-was. And it's that sense of something lost, and of what perhaps should have been, and what might be, that permeates Atkins's debut, Neptune City.

The Ragbirds began in 2005 with songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle and world percussionist Randall Moore in their search to create fresh, original songs sprouting out of their common love for world music and their desire to weave these distant sounds into more familiar genres. With the addition of guitarist/vocalist Matthew Melody, bassist Dan Hildebrandt, and percussionist Tim Dziekan, who share the vision of creating honest, creative, and original music combining these global and local elements, The Ragbirds fully realized their unique sound.

Interview with John Mullins from ekoostik hookah

One of the most original and energetic acts around today, ekoostik hookah is the nucleus of a family drawn to its lucid, improvisational treatment of psychedelic rock ’n’ roll, blues, funk, jazz and bluegrass layered with rich harmonies. Born early in 1991 in a smoky basement bar, the band has been continually evolving, cultivating a sound that has perked the ears of contemporaries and attracted fans who travel miles to hear them play.

Interview with Bob Crawford from The Avett Brothers

The songs are honest: just chords with real voices singing real melodies. But, the heart and the energy with which they are sung, is really why people are talking, and why so many sing along.

They are a reality in a world of entertainment built with smoke and mirrors, and when they play, the common man can break the mirrors and blow the smoke away, so that all that's left behind is the unwavering beauty of the songs. That's the commotion, that's the celebration, and wherever The Avett Brothers are tonight, that's what you'll find.

To recall, it was here in Colorado, in the early 90s, that Vince Herman combined the talents of banjoist Mark Vann, mandolinist/guitarist Drew Emmit, bassist Tye North and drummer Michael Wooten to form the polyethnic slamgrass band now known as Leftover Salmon. These road-dogs scoured the country juggling over 150 shows a year, for years, and satisfying the peoples need for the perfect festivarian act. Vince is currently touring with his band Great American Taxi.

Interview with Dave Hamilton from 56 Hope Road

56 Hope Road is a band bonded like a family, and as a result, their music has an unmistakable honesty and openness. Uncanny, intuitive communication creates an easy interplay on stage, making even the most layered tunes sound effortless. They allow the joy of spontaneous creativity to color their song-based arrangements - neither losing their musical center, nor restricting its growth. This Chicago-based “acoustic funk explosion” is known for clever songwriting, lush vocal harmonies and one of the tightest rhythm sections on the scene.

Four short years ago, a green card was an immigration document - now The Greencards are an acoustic music phenomenon that has played around the world, headlined major festivals, won awards, and toured with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. They've released three fine albums, and their latest release, Viridian, was nominated at the Grammy Awards Ceremony in 2008 for 'Best Country Instrumental Performance'. The Greencards have an ability to go out on stage in front of 20,000 strangers, and magically turn them into friends and fans.

Arlo Guthrie was born with a guitar in one hand and a harmonica in the other, in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York in 1947. He is the eldest son of America's most beloved singer/writer/philosopher Woody Guthrie and Marjorie Mazia Guthrie, a professional dancer with the Martha Graham Company and founder of The Committee to Combat Huntington's Disease.

He grew up surrounded by dancers and musicians: Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Hellerman and Lee Hays (The Weavers), Leadbelly, Cisco Houston, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, all of whom were significant influences on Arlo's musical career. Guthrie gave his first public performance at age 13 and quickly became involved in the music that was shaping the world during the 1960s.

interview with Sitar Player Stephan Mikes

Although many Westerners have been fascinated by the sitar, Stephan Mikes one of the few who have undergone the years of rigorous one-on-one training in classical Indian music necessary to do justice to this ancient instrument. As a primary student of sitar master Roop Verma, Stephan is part of a teaching lineage that goes back over 600 years and includes Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He combines his knowledge of Eastern music with the influence of Latin, Middle Eastern, Afro-Cuban, and Carribean rhythms to create compositions which are unique and compelling. In addition to the sitar, Mikes proficient on guitar, zither, mandolin, lap steel guitar and various types of synthesizers.

Bands like Nickel Creek, Yonder Mountain String Band, and String Cheese Incident, to name just a few, are indebted to Bush's example, not only in his wide-ranging choice of material and rock-based acoustic grooves, but by his captivating, high-energy live shows, which have made him an in demand headliner.

Interview with Melvin Sparks

Melvin Sparks is the Essential Guitar Player. He’s The Master Of The Groove! The Acid-Jazz Pioneer! The Originator of Soul Jazz, Old School Acid Jazz & Barbecue Funk(FUNKJAZZ)

Over the last thirty years he has played with some of Jazz’s greatest musicians: David "Fathead" Newman, Lou Donaldson, Hank Crawford, Reuben Wilson and John Patton (are amongst the many). During the 1970s, Sparks backed up Lou Donaldson on the Funk-Jazz classics "Everything I Play Is Funky" and "Hot Dog".

Sparks recorded seven albums of his own and played on over 100 other albums. As a session man for Blue Note and Prestige Records, Sparks laid his signature guitar work on many other musician’s albums without ever being in spotlight. It was during this time that Melvin defined the jazz-guitar sound of a generation.

Interview with Nick Ayers form The Macpodz

The Macpodz are an electrified jazz quintet from Ann Arbor, Michigan. In the traditions of Miles Davis and Frank Zappa, this ensemble pushes the boundaries of rock, jazz and fusion music. Drummer Griffin Bastian and percussionist Nick Ayers drive the rhythm behind bassist Brennan Andes, keyboardist Jesse Clayton and trumpeter Ross Huff. The band coined the term “Disco Bebop” at their first gig in early 2006, after playing a four on the floor roller rink remix of the Charlie Parker tune, “Dewey Square.”

The band is currently on a Spring 2008 tour in support of their newest release; Orcastrate with many dates scheduled throughout the Midwest and Northeast.

In order to fully understand The Werks, one must first witness them perform live. Self-described as a groove rock band, The Werks' original songs explore genres such as funk, electronica, soul, bluegrass, jazz, afro-cuban, celtic, R&B, and dance. Their unique style of performing is affected and manipulated by the energy of the audience, guaranteeing that each show will be different and memorable.

Today on the Saturday Ham Jam we’re psyched to welcome the Waybacks in for a 50 minute set. They’re celebrating the release of a new CD, Loaded, by playing live on the air.

In the first hour we’ll also have a set from Jimbo Trout and the Fish People.

That’s all happening on the Saturday Ham Jam today, Saturday March 22, from 1pm-3pm Pacific Time, exclusively on KPIG-AM, 1510-AM in the San Francisco Bay Area. ("Exclusively" means we’re not streamed on the internets, ya gotta be in the SF Bay Area to hear the show.)

Tune in, turn on, and PIG out!

from the website:

"This site is designed for everyone from the old school tapers of the Grateful Dead, to the new generation of Keller Williams and Jack Johnson fans with their digital recordings. Our streaming concerts uses standard playlists (.m3u), which means it will start to play in your own preferred media player, be it iTunes, WinAmp, Windows Media Player, or what have you, rather than a Flash-based player. This is so that you can listen without having to keep a window open to our website, which is preferrable for those of us who listen while doing other things."

Drew Emmitt Band at the Great American..

Caught Drew Emmitt at the Great American in SF...Awesome show...great mix of mandolin and elec guitar for Drew...really rockin'...a few LEFT-OVER tunes and some new ones from an upcoming new album...of course my highlight was 'Highway song'.

The Hackensaw Boys opened...Great traditional bluegrass with a touch of jamminess...they are from (I believe) Virginia(?)...They really ripped it up and got the crowd on the floor dancing...They also ended with a little circle jam on the floor surrounded by the crowd....Everybody was boogeyin'...definitely check these guys out at a festival near you....

all in all...a great time....Looking forward to Emmit-Nershi Band at High Sierra.....

DACHAMBO~ Japan's Finest!

The band formed in 2001 with twin drums, fat bottom bass lines, loud and soulful guitar plus digital sound, DACHAMBO is a band which is hard to be classified in any category of music. Dachambo's creation is blending of anything from Jam Rock, Trance, Latin, Funk, Psychedelic to Tribal music.

This is the band that crosses over all the musical barriers freely to enjoy music with peace and smile. Their shows are like one of those good fesitivals where musicians and audience together genterate good vibrations, frequently changing according to the inspriation, which eventually makes you dance.

DACHAMBO MURA: means Dachambo Village which is what they call thier fans.

This band is PERFECT for High Sierra this year. DACHAMBO has an established fan base in Japan and is eager and excited about bringing their unique sound to America!

They are similar to MELTONE (who are currently and sadly on hiatus) but are much much better musician who have been playing together longer! I think you will LOVE them!!

dead heads, what bands are you traveling to see now

You can decide for yourself if you are a dead head. There have been some recent post that made me wonder who you all are supporting now, who do you travel to see? lets limit it to no more then three choices. I ask this so i can maybe see some new band that i might be aware of.
for me: New Monsoon, RailRoad Earth and WideSpread Panic
Although I don't miss the chance to see phil or bobby when playing locally, by that i mean within a couple of hours from home.

Did you or anyone you know get cited for having an open container in the upper parking lot of the Greek Theater in Berkeley? I did at the Phil & Friends show on 9/23/07.

If this happened to you, let's pick each other's brains and figure out how to make lemonade.
02/28/08 - SoHo - Santa Barbara, CA
03/01/08 - Belly Up Tavern - Solana Beach (San Diego), CA

Starting last night at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz, Perpetual Groove brought their "Save 41 Tour" west for the first time in over a year. The band has been at it full force since the beginning of the year with a spectacular two-night New Year's run at the Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte. PGroove performed on board the latest installment of Jam Cruise in January with a memorable Broadway Theater performance in the ship's bow featuring a phenomenal dance routine put on by MSC dancers.

The band's first official live release, the 2-disc "Echoes From The Cave" will be available later this spring. It was recorded in 2006 in front of an intimate studio audience at Tree Sound Studios. The release culls together the best from both nights including fan favorites, "Teakwood Betz," "Only Always," and "Mr. Transistor." Also included on the release are several previously unreleased songs like "Suburban Speedball," and "T.T.F.P.J." The album was recorded and mixed by Shawn Grove (Sevendust, Collective Soul, Edwin McCain) and is being released through Tree Leaf Music.
PGroove's fall Serious Business Tour was powered by the Green Mountain Energy Company and left a positive impact on our environment. All emissions were offset with renewable energy credits through a partnership with Sustainable Waves and Eco-Tunes. This included all the travel, lodging and electricity expended by the venues at Perpetual Groove concerts. In 2007 PG purchased enough energy credits to offset 100% of the calculated carbon emissions associated with its tour (16 metric tons), which is like not driving your car for over 39,000 miles or the annual carbon absorbtion of 2,000 trees. The band is scheduled to appear at the Langerado Festival in March followed up an appearance at Europe's premier jam event, Jam in the Dam.
