String Cheese Trick or Treat

The String Cheese Incident unveils their new limited edition live release, Trick Or Treat, on October 27, 2009. The timing is fitting, considering the nine-disc box set was culled from a variety of epic SCI "Hulaween" shows. From Atlanta's Variety Playhouse (1998) Philadelphia's Electric Factory (1999), Portland, Maine's State Theatre (2000), New York City (2001), Shrine Auditorium (2002) in Los Angeles, Sin City's Cox Pavillion (2003) and the Exhibition Center @ Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin (2004) - Trick or Treat journeys through the years to re-visit some of the band's most classic Incidents from Halloween's past.

This exclusive box set offers seven of SCI's famous Halloween cover sets in their entirety, including String Cheese performing songs by such artists as the Beatles, Beastie Boys, KC & The Sunshine Band, Phish and many others.

Trick or Treat Pre-Order
The String Cheese Incident and SCI Fidelity Records are pleased to announce the Trick or Treat Pre-Order Campaign.

Beginning on September 23, 2009, the first 500 people who order the Trick or Treat Box Set through MusicToday (LINK) will automatically be entered to win one of thirty (30) first prizes. Contest winners will receive an extremely rare, uncut Trick or Treat poster, featuring the Michael Everett cover art poster, plus all 7 mini-posters from the box set. These uncut sheet will also be signed by the members of SCI!

In addition, the first 200 Box Sets ordered will include Everett cover art posters signed by The String Cheese Incident themselves!

Legalize Hemp and Cannabis in California

Hi Family,

"And if my words did glow, with the gold of sunshine. And if my tunes were played on the harp unstrung..." Please help these words to ripple... ripple becomes a wave... wave becomes a tsunami... pretty soon love and compassion are the law of the land and we can dance in peace and unity!

Right now there are two competing signature drives to put Cannabis legalization initiatives on the ballot in California in November 2010.

One is found at www.taxcannabis2010.org

The other is found at www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org

Please look carefully at the text of both laws (the text of each is finalized) and make up your own mind which one you support.

I am supporting www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org because our law will protect Cannabis users from discrimination in

healthcare, employment, and housing. It is a full legalization measure for industrial hemp and recreational cannabis which will restore full human rights to Hemp farmers and Cannabis users all across California. Of course supplying Cannabis to children will remain illegal just as it is today. Driving vehicles under the influence will remain illegal just as it is today. Cannabis users will still be fired from their jobs if they show up to work impaired.

There are two parts to our plan. The first part is to publicly post and personally distribute our "Freedom Lover's Call to Arms" in order to recruit volunteers. This document is available here-

www.imgur.com/dbU83

The second part of our plan is to ask everyone who volunteers to make a pledge for how many signatures they can collect in

the next 30 days or so. 15-30 signatures is a good number. If enough volunteers show this level of commitment we can succeed. You can probably get that number from your family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors without having to solicit in public too much. This is an "out of the closet" movement. We will have to proudly advocate human rights for responsible, honest, hard-working Cannabis smokers in order to convince legitimate people to support us. I can supply stickers equivalent to each persons pledge number. These stickers can be used to generate interest and be given to voters who sign the petition. Here is the sticker design-

www.imgur.com/2cjvb

Feel free to distribute and use these images. Just don't copyright them.

We have 145 days in order to get the number of signatures that we need. Our petition is hot off the press on 9/11 and we

have started collecting the first signatures yesterday 9/12.

We are polling 56% public support for Cannabis legalization in California which menas that this is an initiative which is not doomed. Its time has finally arrived; we are at the tipping point right now. Now is the time to do this and to do it right. We may only get one chance. If a law which is not exactly what we want is implemented then we may lose our critical mass and our ability to set it right.

I believe that less adults will smoke cannabis after it is legal. This is the case in the Netherlands where it has been

available over-the-counter for 30 years yet only half as many citizens (percentage-wise) smoke as do citizens here. My economics professor has taught for years that prohibition has not succeeded in decreasing usage by increasing penalties. Instead it has destroyed lives and families without substantial benefit to society. After legalization hard-drug usage will decrease due to a "separation of the markets," a decline in the price of Cannabis relative to hard-drugs, and the restoration of honesty and common sense in drug education. Violence, thievery, and the incarceration of honest people will decrease as well. I also believe that a well regulated market will decrease the availability and appeal of cannabis to children. In fact teenage Cannabis use in California has fallen steadily since the passage of Proposition 215. Furthermore the adults who smoke Cannabis after legalization will be better able appreciate the majesty of nature in peace and unity without learning to fear and disrespect authority figures. This will be better for their spirits and better for society. Finally the human rights of legitimate medical Cannabis patients will be better protected than they are today. Legalizing Cannabis will create a safer, healthier, and more humane California for us all to live in.

If you want to help us in any way please contact the CCI campaign at www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org or write me at
deep_space_underground@yahoo.com I give you my encouragement to modify this message if necessary and distribute it to anyone who might help on any forum or by any mechanism.

Love,
-Fully Committed

FrEE FESTIVAL- Rythms On The Rio - August 22-23

I wanted to let you know about a free festival we are putting on in South Fork CO, on August 22nd and 23rd 2009.

The festival is called Rhythms On The Rio (www.rhythmsontherio.com).

It will be a free 2 day festival with on-site and local camping. It will be a pass the hat donation based benefit for the Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust, and the High Valley Community Center for kids, and is being put on by The South Fork Music Association, a non-profit volunteer 501-3C Group.

Headling acts will include the Nershi-Law Trio (formerly Honkeytonk Homeslice) and friends, Great American Taxi, and others. Appearing with Bill and Jill Nershi will be Scott Law, and Darol Anger (plus maybe some other unannounced guests). The Darol Anger Trio, and others, will also appear that
day. On August 23rd 2009, Great American Taxi, Susan Gibson, Pete Kartsounes, and others will also be appearing.

The festival will take place on the grassy banks of the Rio Grande river in the San Juan mountains of South Fork CO (just over Wolf Creek Pass from Pagossa Springs and west of Alamosa in the town of South Fork on highway 160), on August 22nd and 23rd 2009. It is easy to get to, and should be a kind, relaxed, real good time for everyone. Tickets are free, but must be downloaded off of the web site.

Can you please pass the word? Please check out the web site, and if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me by email (michael@delibdesigns.com or on tribe). Thanks!
WANTED 500,000 for Woodstock's 40th Anniversary

WOODSTOCK 1969-2009

TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS! We want 500,000 Facebook friends on our own Yasgur's farm in cyberspace by August 15, 2009 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=117081835299

This group is brought to you by the authors of Woodstock-Peace Music and Memories, a new publication from Krause Publications (Goldmine Magazine) that brings to life the 3 days of peace and music through the stories and personal photos of those who were there.
http://www.amazon.com/Woodstock-Peace-Memories-Brad-Littleproud/dp/0896898334

This is an unofficial Facebook group for the events planned to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Arts Fair in White Lake, New York. This group will serve to provide up to the minute news, announcements and rumors associated with "official" Woodstock events from Woodstock Ventures Inc. and sanctioned celebrations. You will also find news on recent media associated with Woodstock and its 40th anniversary.

Brad Littleproud and Joanne Hague were lead preservationists in the pursuit of the historic preservation of the original Woodstock festival site in Bethel New York.
http://www.woodstockpreservation.org/

We invite Facebook friends to post their questions and quandaries about Woodstock, and use this group to seek information about the events that will be talked out in the months to come.

I look forward to seeing you there!!

HUMBOLDT MUSIC COLLECTIVE CD RELEASE PARTY IN SAN FRANCISCO THIS SATURDAY JAN 24TH .....MOO-GOT-2 AND MORE

TetraGroove is an independent record company from San Francisco, with their premier release: “The Humboldt Collective”, a compilation featuring the hottest in up-and-coming talent from the Humboldt County area. This is a student run project from The Globe Institute of Recording and Production’s, music business program. With help from its invaluable staff of instructors, and additional help from Paesano Productions, TetraGroove is sure to turn some heads this coming New Year. TetraGroove represents the evolution of the music industry, dedicated solely to the idea of proliferating positive art and music to everyone. Staying true to the ideals and integrity of the artists themselves and bringing together a community unified by the queen of our souls: Music.

The compilation will feature fifteen tracks, by five undeniably talented groups, representing a full spectrum of vibrant sounds. Three of the bands will be featured at the CD release party on Jan 24th. Ishi Dube, the talented and driven roots artist brings his sincere and uplifting reggae style to the masses with tracks like “Soundbwai”. One of Humboldt’s most talked about bands MooGot2, also brings their uplifting and musically impeccable vibe, reminiscent of Galactic, and Motet, to the table on tracks such as “GPS”, one that might actually make you forget where you are going, rather than get you home. For the Hip-Hop community, Subliminal Sabotage is sure to please with their edgy, yet fluid style, provided by a live band, and rugged three-emcee tandem with an appreciation for the old-school, taking influence from the likes of Rakim.

With the help of our friends at SFSU’s Golden Gate Express, and Skunk Magazine, as well as the expertise of Paesano Productions and The Mission Rock Café, getting the word out about the music and our cause will be a campaign for success.

Help Support the collective cause!

Thirteen years after playing their first note together in Philadelphia, PA, The Disco Biscuits continue to make mind bending, genre defying music.

Jam Band or live act these days ?

I have not been truly inspired by Live music in quite sometime. Well by "Jam Bands" any way

I do love the Yard Dogs Road Show, And the Stevie Wonder show I saw was one of the most inspiring
shows I have ever seen. But I don't think they actually count as "Jam" bands. Just curios where people are at

Interview with Bernie Worrell

In many circles, Bernie Worrell needs no introduction. From his work as a founding member and Musical Director of Parliament-Funkadelic to his contributions to the Talking Heads, Worrell has been twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Indeed, songs such as “Burning Down the House” and “Flashlight” wouldn’t have been the same without him, and Worrell’s keyboard prowess has only grown since those classic recordings. As one of the most sampled musicians in history, Worrell’s funky licks have graced hit songs by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Ice Cube, En Vogue and more.

Interview with Ed Anderson from Backyard Tire Fire

Backyard Tire Fire has released their new studio album, The Places We Lived, on August 26, 2008. It’s the first long-player by the Bloomington, Illinois-based band to be released on independent label Hyena Records. Distinguished by a rare combination of workingman authenticity and indie-rock eccentricity, The Places We Lived is defiantly contemporary in the face of its deep Midwestern roots.

Interview with Marshall from Chicago Afrobeat Project

Afrobeat cannot stand still. As the genre’s tempting sounds continue a resurgence across the globe, Chicago Afrobeat Project (CAbP) remains true to its original vision of breathing the intensity of Chicago’s rich music scene into the infectious sounds of afrobeat. At each of its 100+ live performances a year, the group’s frenzied songs hit audiences with a big enough one-two punch to tirelessly knock them onto the dance floor time and time again.

Some devastating news from the Dave Matthews Band web site...

08/19/2008
We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.

LeRoi was an awesome sax player and a great person in general... He will be greatly missed!
We love you LeRoi!!!

Interview with Laura Reed

Laura Reed & Deep Pocket fill the stage with captivating, soul shaking, conscious music. The crowd is emerged with lyrics of truth and a voice of intensity backed by bass, organ, and drums, horns, and harmonies reminiscent of the past days of motown and funk.

The roots of their sound and message stem from Laura’s diverse experience of growing up in South Africa and the American South. Formed in the summer of 2006, the band switches up the music between funk, progressive R&B, and pure SOUL behind Laura Reed’s captivating stage presence.

It’s been a long, successful run for the Philadelphia native and self-described “hip-hop blues artist,” whose self-titled 1994 Okeh/Epic Records debut was certified Gold on the strength of the MTV hit, “Cold Beverage,” and a non-stop performing ethic that still has them playing more than 150 shows a year. In fact, the group just recently returned from a headline tour in Australia and Europe that was highlighted by some shows with Jack Johnson. Upon their return to the U.S., the band will be headlining their own outdoor amphitheatre tour with John Butler Trio later this summer.

Fresh off their first High Sierra throw down, Izabella will be passing through Portland on their way to the Remember Jerry Festival in Northern Idaho. This Wednesday, July 9th, will be our third trip to beautiful Portland and these guys are sure to rock the house. Portland has been very good to us and the band is feeling it right now. Izabella always starts at 9:30pm sharp on the weeknights at the Goodfoot so you're able to get your fill before heading to bed. See you there

Wednesday, July 9th
The Goodfoot Pub in Portland, OR
2 full sets of Izabella @ 9:30pm SHARP!

www.phish.com

Given the volume of speculation and rumors that have bubbled up recently, I have been asked to make a statement…Here goes.

For me, the last four years have been great. I’ve spent quality time with my family and have watched my daughter grow. I took great pleasure and pride in writing and recording an album. I’m living a healthy lifestyle. I travel as little as possible and I sleep in my own bed. It took a couple of years after the break up to begin talking to my old band mates, but once the conversations began to flow it wasn’t long before the friendships were rekindled. And I can honestly say that I’m closer with all of them now then I’ve ever been in our 20-year relationship.

Recently the conversations have turned toward the possibility of spending some time together. Currently many of us have plans and projects already in the works, most notably Mike, who made a great album and is about to hit the road in support of it. Given that I might not even see some of the guys for the next six months, I would say that the announcement of a reunion is premature. However, later this year we hope to spend some time together and take a look at what possible futures we might enjoy. In fact the only real decision that has been made is that when we do get together, it will only be the four of us, hopefully with no distractions. I am really looking forward to that.

I want to say just a few more things. The prospect of Phish reuniting is something I consider very seriously, and I think about it a lot. And lastly, as always, there is plenty of misinformation floating around. Try not to focus too much on secondhand sources and random gossip. If there is anything real to announce, it will come from the four of us as a group.

Until then,
Page

Govt Mule/Ratdog show in Murphys, CA - volunteer opportunity!

Rock the Earth www.rocktheearth.org needs someone to help at the Murphys, CA Mule & Ratdog show on Friday, June 27. You will receive a pass into the show, however, it is expected that this is a working pass so you will need to be willing to work during set up, pre-show, between sets, and tear down. There will be 2 other volunteers working the booth with you so you would have good guidance during the show.

You will be educating music fans about the work RtE is doing around the country in partnership with the music and environmental communities to protect natural resources, and asking people to join RtE that night. If interested, please send an email to tree@rocktheearth.org (not a Tribe message!!).

2-night Izabella run in Sacramento finalized!!

We've confirmed another 2-night run in Sacramento on August 15th and 16th. For those of you that have been around a 2-night Izabella run then you know the craziness that will go down. For those of you that don't it's the biggest little secret. Sacramento has a really good scene and community that surrounds Izabella and we are excited to provide a great weekend of music. Look for our new stage design to be debuted at this festive event!

A summer night on Vashon Island proved that the community IS smaller than we all think. After loading in we starting talking with the other act on the bill and it turned out Lucas Carlton had performed with a couple of these guys in High School. As discussion continued we realized that the bass player from the band was dating Sean Lehe's cousin. The night with Damon Castillo Band (www.myspace.com/damoncastillo) not only blew our minds, but also knocked us off our feet! These guys are hot and will be a lovely start to the weekend so make sure you come out at 9pm sharp to check this solid unit out.

Saturday is when things get loose and the party explodes. Our great friends 5 Eyed Hand (www.fiveeyedhand.com) will ignite the fire with their playful artistry and impressive musical backgrounds. This summer has introduced 5 Eyed Hand and Izabella to the festival circuit and we're extremely excited to have these guys joining us in our hometown. Saturday is not to be missed so make sure you get drinks early and make it out to catch this Santa Cruz based quartet.

We're looking forward to an incredible weekend of music and celebration of life so join us for the weekend and check out some talented folks from Sacramento to San Luis Obispo. There will be horns present on Friday and a violin in the house on Saturday so look for some cross pollination. Get your $15 two-night pass early cause the place will get packed!

See you soon

Free Music Downloads at GabyVmusic.com

Hey Friends,

I just created a site called GabyVmusic.com. This was an idea a friend of mine had to help give me a little spark with the music creating process. The idea is to have one new song posted on my site each week. The spark has really worked and I am already on week number 4, which means I have already uploaded 4 new songs.
Each song posted is totally original and unique to the going's on in my life for that week. I have vowed to follow through with the weekly creation for one full year, so that means at the end of the year I will have a total of 52 new, original songs. Anyone can go on the site (GabyVmusic.com) to listen to and download songs.
People who subscribe to the blog (that's you!! :>) and/or email list can get the song emailed to them immediately when the new song is posted each week.
I am really trying to run with this thing. I am asking for feedback from anyone and everyone on the GabyVMusic.com site. Subscribers can give their own recommendation on themes for upcoming week's songs and also post responses and critiques to songs already posted.
So, if you get a minute, check out GabyVmusic.com and listen to the Songs of the Week!
Much love to you all.

Interview with David Bromberg

David Bromberg’s live show remains as unique as ever. Concerts by David and his band are extraordinary events, and performances follow no set pattern of selection. Give and take between performer is complete, spontaneous, and totally sincere. As the NY Times noted “He has such control of his audience that he can, at one moment, hold it in his hand with a tender, touching yet funny anecdotal song, and then set it romping and stomping with a raucous bit of raunch. He is electrifying.”

Interview with Nicole Atkins

The shores of New Jersey are littered, quite literally, with small towns whose better days are far in the past. They're towns that have been written about, and sung over; towns that have been mythologized and idealized; and they are the towns that 28-year-old musician Nicole Atkins --a native of Neptune City, located a stones throw from fabled Asbury Park--was born and raised in.

They can be places steeped in their own history, buried under the sense of their own pasts. Places of hey-days and what-once-was. And it's that sense of something lost, and of what perhaps should have been, and what might be, that permeates Atkins's debut, Neptune City.

The Ragbirds began in 2005 with songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle and world percussionist Randall Moore in their search to create fresh, original songs sprouting out of their common love for world music and their desire to weave these distant sounds into more familiar genres. With the addition of guitarist/vocalist Matthew Melody, bassist Dan Hildebrandt, and percussionist Tim Dziekan, who share the vision of creating honest, creative, and original music combining these global and local elements, The Ragbirds fully realized their unique sound.

Interview with John Mullins from ekoostik hookah

One of the most original and energetic acts around today, ekoostik hookah is the nucleus of a family drawn to its lucid, improvisational treatment of psychedelic rock ’n’ roll, blues, funk, jazz and bluegrass layered with rich harmonies. Born early in 1991 in a smoky basement bar, the band has been continually evolving, cultivating a sound that has perked the ears of contemporaries and attracted fans who travel miles to hear them play.

ekoostik hookah's next show is next weekend at Hookahville 29 at Legend Valley in Thornville, OH. They will be playing on Saturday and Sunday night. The lineup for this springs hookahville is one of the strongest in recent memory - Sam Bush, Railroad Earth, Outformation, Lotus, The Ragbirds, Greensky Bluegrass, Papadosio, Emmitt Nershi Band, Fat City Reprise, Boogie Matrix Mechanism, Macpodz, The Werks, 56 Hope Road, Woodbox Gang, Seven.

Interview with Bob Crawford from The Avett Brothers

The songs are honest: just chords with real voices singing real melodies. But, the heart and the energy with which they are sung, is really why people are talking, and why so many sing along.

They are a reality in a world of entertainment built with smoke and mirrors, and when they play, the common man can break the mirrors and blow the smoke away, so that all that's left behind is the unwavering beauty of the songs. That's the commotion, that's the celebration, and wherever The Avett Brothers are tonight, that's what you'll find.

To recall, it was here in Colorado, in the early 90s, that Vince Herman combined the talents of banjoist Mark Vann, mandolinist/guitarist Drew Emmit, bassist Tye North and drummer Michael Wooten to form the polyethnic slamgrass band now known as Leftover Salmon. These road-dogs scoured the country juggling over 150 shows a year, for years, and satisfying the peoples need for the perfect festivarian act. Vince is currently touring with his band Great American Taxi.
